About
Erin Hammond Caswell’s original paintings are a free-form version of figurative expressionism that allows her female representations to speak for themselves. Each figure is saturated with a distinctive set of qualities and characteristics apparent through her features and pose. Her artworks have been exhibited at numerous international art fairs and galleries. They have found a place in major private collections worldwide.
This original artwork on canvas is 20 inches tall by 16 inches wide. The artist uses a variety of media, including acrylic paint and charcoal to create this unique painting. Erin Caswell was born in Milwaukee, WI, and studied Fine Art at the University of Wisconsin Parkside. She moved to Los Angeles in 2010. In 2013 she was a top-rated artist in RAWawards, the largest indie art competition in the US.
She engages the art historical genres of the nude and the society portrait through the syntaxes of the fashion sketch and abstraction. By alternating layers of pencil and acrylic, she combines an active interest in the female body with experiments in color, calligraphic scribble, and shading.
Caswell tends to "focus on the roughness of line and the immediate processes of painting”. “As we are unfinished beings, in the process of completion, my paintings reflect that concept as I overlap with paint and pencil lines, overworking some areas and leaving other areas unfinished.” She uses the unfinished elements of her aesthetic to explore the contemporary fascination with (im)perfection latent in those professions.
